Key Stage 1 - Design a Polar Scene Competition
Over 100 works of art from 5-7 year olds across Oxfordshire flew into the Atkins Schools Energy Education Office in Eynsham. Atkins, with help from the British Antarctic Survey, ran a competition for 5-7 year olds to design a scene of the South Pole to highlight global warming. The winning entry, from Ellie Hickman from St. John the Evangelist School in Carterton, is shown below.
Well done Ellie and congratulations to everyone who took part!
In May 2008 we held a competition for all the infants in the 9 schools we have been working with in Essex. The competition was to design a polar scene thinking about what animals would live there, the different textures there may be and how their habitat is being affected by global warming. We had many entries all of which were very creative. It was difficult to choose the winning design but we would like to congratulate Jason Clarke from Lawford Mead Infant school for his winning entry as pictured.
‘Design a Solar Vehicle’ competition.
In October last year all the schools who are involved in the school energy education programme were invited to take part in our ‘Design a Solar Vehicle’ competition. There were four solar buggies to be awarded to the winning entries of which we received 168 from 14 different schools across Oxfordshire. The children’s designs took into account many of the limitations which there may be with a solar powered vehicle and had found exciting ways to overcome these problems. It was a difficult job to decide on the 15 to be short listed. Once decided however, these were sent to Tim Lunnel the director of the National Energy Foundation who selected the winner and 3 runners up.
Each of the entries was exciting, unique and well thought out but the winning designs were those which excelled in every way.
Congratulations to everyone who took part. The winning entry is pictured below.
