Sonning Common Case Study
After a year of being Part of the Atkins School Energy project Sonning Common have saved 34‰ on their electricity consumption.
I have to admit the initial aim of joining the Energy Certification Scheme was to save money rather than to help the environment. However, Wendy Cheeseman's wonderfully visual assemblies have created a real awareness amongst the children and staff.Aiming for Level 1 certification gave us all a focus.Wendy's tips gleaned from her visits to other schools and confirmation that we were on the right track were invaluable. Wendy chivvied us along and kept the impetus going - something which may not have happened had we been left to our own devices!
We have been successful in our aim of reducing our energy usage but the additional achievement of attaining Level 1 certification was a real boost for not only the E-Kids team but the whole school. We are looking forward to further raising the awareness of energy-related issues during our school "Environment Week" in the autumn and we particularly want to get stuck into the work for level two, with Wendy's help!
